Conrad Clark dominant once again in China
Taupō’s Conrad Clark, 16, has once again dominated in the Chinese Formula 4 Championship. This time winning all three races during the series’ third round at the Ningbo Circuit in Zhejiang, China.
Coming off the back of the week long Elite Motorsport Academy of New Zealand camp last week, Clark was straight on the pace, topping both the practice sessions before taking his first pole position of the season. He finished the session with the fastest lap by seventh-tenths of a second.
“It was good to finally get a pole position!” said Clark.
“We’ve always just missed out or not had things go our way but everything fell in place this weekend.“
The first of three races was held in heavy rain, meaning the usual standing start was replaced by a safety car start. A mid-race safety car for a stranded car took up a lot of racing time and the scheduled 14-lap race was shortened multiple laps to a time-certain 30-minute affair. However, Clark was able to lead from start to finish to score another win by five-seconds.
Race two saw a break in the weather however a wet track still presented a challenge for Clark. After much deliberation, Clark and his team chose to use wet weather tyres, a decision that proved vital as Clark took another lights to flag victory.
The final race of the weekend was again held in the rain, but a reverse top ten grid meant that Clark would start from tenth place on the grid. Whilst this presented an elevated challenge, Clark rose to the occasion driving his way through the field to clean sweep the weekend.
“It was another great weekend for us! Huge thanks to BlackArts Racing for all their efforts too.”
The Taupō Nui-a-Tia College student extends his points lead by 21-points to 65-points over second place. Clark’s efforts also assisted BlackArts Racing lead in the team’s championship.
Clark’s Chinese campaign is proudly supported by Hertz Car Rentals Taupo, Advance Gaming, Lakeland Glass and Windscreens, Performance Mechanical Engineering, Lakeside Wholesale Vehicles, Grass Growers Ltd Site Development and Earthmoving as well as other private individual supporters
